Grannie Rhodes Cottage; Turn The Key Of Time
Grannie Rhodes Cottage offers a 50 minute live cultural heritage performance and a guided tour of the cottage and the Bark Hut at Richmond, southeast Tasmania. The restored, early-1800s cottage features Turn the Key of Time – the true story about its original occupant, Grannie Rhodes.
The cottage is the only remaining dwelling Richmond without electricity or water. With owner and actor Miriam Coopers performance you experience what life was like for early colonial and convict settlers in Tasmania. Be transported back to Old England in 1824; hear of the tribulations of Grannies parents, her two marriages - first to a convict and bushranger and then a freeman - and discover how she lived in this tiny cottage, raising her eleven grandchildren. Performances are at 6pm and 3pm most days (closed Tuesdays) or by prior arrangement. Bookings are recommended. The show is multi award winning and highly recommended by Catriona Rowntree in the Best Things to do in Womens Day Aug 2010. A new addition is Bernie Tarrs beautiful commemorative sculpture.
